Called the Mastretta MXT, it will be debuted at the International
Mexican Auto Show on December 2007 with the first units to be sold
in the beginning of 2008.
Mastretta is a specialized industrial design company with listed
projects in various industries including transportation, equipment,
and packaging. They specialize in design, prototype creation and
pilot production. The Mastretta MXT project, which they seem intent
to see through all the way to full production, may be their most
ambitious undertaking to date.
The Mastretta MXT is now in the final stages of development and
prototype testing. Their facilities for series production of the
sports car is currently being built with an initial 150 units scheduled
to ship out at a $55,000 price tag.
The original prototype of the Mastretta MXT, is a gorgeous orange
creation, that was first unveiled in May of 2007. On first look,
the two-seater, two-door coupe is beautifully-designed and built
at just the right proportions. The look of the Mastretta MXT screams
supercar, but the performance specifications seem to indicate a
more level-headed effort with an announced top speed of 230 kph
and a 0 to 60 mph acceleration at an impressive but modest 5.8 seconds.
Overall, the Mastretta MXT seems like a nicely-sculpted, aesthetically-striking
fast car with easy, uncomplicated features. The MXT carries a minimalist
feel. The MXT not going to change the world or break any records,
but it is going to be one sweet ride for enthusiasts.
Features
The Mastretta MXT currently sports a mid-mounted 2.3 liter, 4-cylinder,
16-valve engine with a usable power of 200 bhp. The Mastretta MXT
is listed to pull down a lightweight 2200 pounds. The engine may
be upgraded in the final production version with Mastretta currently
trying to ink deals with established, global car manufacturers.
The MXT will be fitted with a 5-speed transaxle manual transmission
and high-performance 11.45-inches vented disc brakes that can bring
the vehicle from 60 mph to standstill in a mere 35 meters. The Mastretta
MXT is rear-wheel drive with rack and pinion steering. The exterior
is built with closed mould, high-quality fiberglass over a bonded
aluminum semi-monocoque chassis with steel complementary sub-frames.
Dimensions are 153.5 X 68.9 X 46.1 inches (length, width and height.).
The interior of the Mastretta MXT appears quite roomy and should
support enough comfort for distance driving. The MXT's windshield
is generously-sized and allows great visibility although the rear
window appears a bit small though adequate. Planned on-board standard
equipment are basic and include airbags, an MP3 music system, and
three-point safety harness.
Availability
There's not much buzz about the Mastretta MXT, which may not bode
well, considering the release date should be coming soon.
Scheduled for production in early 2008, the makers of the Mastretta
MXT are planning to ship both locally in Mexico and internationally.
They are actively working towards establishing distribution networks
across the U.S, Europe, and Japan. Mastretta specifically mentioned
selling the MXT in Germany where they intend to market it head on
against other small powerful sports car models such as the Lotus
Elise and Opel GT.
