The Maserati MC12 was built on the chassis on the Enzo
Ferrari. The final product ended up being a little larger,
heavier and slower, however.

The Maserati MC12 was also taller, longer, and wider than the Enzo,
and had a top speed of 12 less miles per hour (205 on the MC12,
217 on the Enzo).
That said, Maserati developed the MC12 to signal the end of their
37-year racing hiatus. A road version was produced because one of
the requirements for participating in the FIA GT is the production
of at least 25 road cars.
At the end of 2004, Maserati began racing the MC12, and they won
the Zhuhai International Circuit. The cars were also entered into
the American Le Mans Series, but they were too big to compete. The
Maserati MC12 has the same Ferrari Dino V12 engine, only with slight
modifications. The MC12 has the same gearbox, the same chassis and
track, but its own bodywork.
The extra size of the MC12 compared to the Enzo permits more downforce
across the entire body. The Maserati MC12 is a two-door coupe. It
has a targa top roof, but the roof can't be stored in the car, which
has bothered some owners.
Also, since the Maserati MC12 has a mid-rear layout, the center
of gravity is kept in the middle of the car. This improves the car's
ability to corner, as well as an increase in stability. Forty-one
percent of the weight of the Maserati MC12 is distributed in the
front, and 59-percentof the weight is distributed in the rear.
The body of the Maserati MC12 is made entirely of carbon fiber,
and it has undergone plenty of wind tunnel testing for maximum downforce.
Because of this, the rear spoiler is two meters wide.
Only available in white and blue, the exterior of the Maserati
MC12 is very eye-catching. The MC12 can accelerate from 0 to 60
in just 3.8 seconds, and up to 125 miles per hour in 9.9 seconds.
Although the Maserati MC12 has gotten many positive reviews, it
has also been criticized for its price and size. Also, the Maserati
MC12 doesn't have a rear window or radio, which is very important
to many car owners, especially at these prices.
A derivative of the MC12, the MC12 Corsa, is simply a racecar driven
only by private owners. The Maserati MC12 Corsa was made directly
from the MC12 GT1, and created in mid-2006. The car is not street
legal, and can only be driven on specially organized track days.
With a price tag of $1.5 million, only 12 Corsas were sold. Fifteen
were made overall, with three unsold, which have been used for testing.
Unlike the normal MC12, the Corsa does not have an anti-lock brake
system.
Many compare the Corsa to the Ferrari
FXX because of owners can only drive it on special days, and
neither cars are street legal. Despite its minor shortcomings, the
Maserati MC12 is a beautiful supercar that a few wealthy individuals
are enthralled to drive.
